DESIGN AWARD CATEGORIES

BUILDING AWARD

Open to a single or related group of buildings including new construction, renovations and historic preservation projects.

INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE AWARD

Recognizes the excellence and diversity of interiors projects designed by AIA Members. Interiors that have been submitted for a Building Award, or have previously received an award are not eligible.

LOW BUDGET/SMALL PROJECT AWARD

Awarded in recognition of design excellence within the constraints of small budget, scale and size. Final construction costs must be submitted. Small projects must be under 2,000 sq. ft. in size. Submission must have been executed for a client and may include interiors projects.

25 YEAR AWARD

For distinguished projects designed by an AIA Member prior to 1980 and used for at least 25 years for the same purpose for which they were designed.

MICHIGAN STEEL AWARD

This award recognizes design excellence through the innovative use of steel products within architecture created by AIA Michigan architects and their engineers, contractors and fabricators. Sponsored by: Great Lakes Fabricators & Erectors

SUSTAINABLE DESIGN AWARD

Awarded in recognition of excellence in architecture which contributes to the social, economic, cultural, aesthetic and natural components of the global environment through ecologically responsible design.

UNBUILT PROJECT AWARD

Projects including those commissioned for compensation or research and design competitions that are unbuilt to date.

STUDENT PROJECT AWARD

Graduate student project, must be AIA Student member, and a student at a Michigan university on or before the Design and Honor Awards ceremony to be eligible for submission
