AlA MICHIGAN
GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
The goal of this Committee is
to establish a long-range plan to update law affecting the design
profession through legislative coalitions. A "Big Picture" approach will
be considered involving architects, engineers, landscape architects,
land surveyors, contractors, interior designers, and building officials.
2006 Mission Statement
The purpose of the Government
Affairs Committee is to develop, coordinate and expedite an annual,
comprehensive, and pro-active plan for all government affairs for review
and approval by the Board of Directors of AIA Michigan. With Board
approval, the Committee will proceed to implement the plan.
A continuing focus of the committee for 2006 will be
to build stronger coalitions with coordinate organizations. This will
involve a plan to identify important organizations with similar and
opposing views, and develop negotiated agreements on issues affecting
AlA Michigan. As a committee, we will continue to take a pro-active
approach on legislative issues impacting all aspects of our profession,
the environment and the cities we live in. For 2006, we will target key
areas of interest by the membership for legislative pursuits as
described elsewhere in this plan. A continuing initiative of the
committee will be to nurture and promote relationship building in
Lansing. To be successful in Lansing, AIAMI requires the support and
involvement of each of its members. It is important to note that the
Government Affairs Committee is not a policy-making body. The charge of
the Committee is to investigate, debate, and recommend actions to the
AlA Michigan Board of Directors for final direction. Upon receipt of
that direction, the Committee will implement the policies adopted by the
Board.
