Eligibility
Any firm or successor firms, whether an individual or an organization of
architects, in which the continuing collaboration among individuals of the firm
has been the principal force in consistently producing distinguished
architecture for a period of at least 10 years, is eligible for the Architecture
Firm Award. While serving on the Board of Directors, Board members and their
firms are ineligible to be nominated for this award. No more than one such award
shall be made in any year.
Nominations must be RECEIVED by the AIAMI by May
of the award year.
Following this deadline, the Gold Medal/Firm Award Advisory Jury will review
all nominations submitted and select five Firm Award nominees to move forward in
the Board's selection process. All nominations MUST have a Board sponsor before
they can be presented to the jury.
Criteria
Candidates will be evaluated on how well they meet the program criteria as
established by the Board, which may include:

The firm shall
have evidenced great depth, having a cumulative effect on the profession
of architecture. |

• |
The firm shall
have evidenced great breadth, having influenced the direction/profession
of architecture. |
|
• |
The firm's work
shall be a product of a collaborative environment which has consistently
directed itself toward the future as well as respectful of the past. |
|
• |
The firm shall
have evidenced the ability to transcend specific areas of expertise or
shall have made connections between areas, in the event that the firm's
areas of focus might be considered circumscribed. |

• |
The firm shall
be widely known by the quality of its products: by those who practice
architecture, by those who teach architecture, and by those who perhaps
do neither. |
Submissions
All exhibits must be submitted in an AIA uniform binder, obtained by contacting
the AIAMI Honors and Awards Department, (313) 965-4100 or emailing a your
request to aiami@aiami.com
Each nomination shall contain the
following:

A nomination
letter that summarizes the contributions made not to exceed one page |
|
• |
A brief
biography of all firm principals and a history of the firm not to exceed
four pages |
|
• |
A list of the
firm's achievements not to exceed two pages |
|
• |
Miscellaneous
material: clippings, articles, etc. not to exceed three pages |
|
• |
Up to 10
photographs of early, middle, and recent work of the firm |
|
• |
A signed intern
declaration. |
In addition, nominees
selected by the Gold Medal/Firm Award Jury for presentation to the Board in
September will be required to provide up to 40 slides of the firm's work.
Finalists
Firm Award finalists being presented to the Board in December must provide up to
10 letters of support. Letters should be explicit in their recommendation and
contain specific reasons for support.
Schedule
Nominations must be RECEIVED at AIAMI headquarters no later than May
