2005 AIA Michigan Design Honor Award

 Hill Auditorium Restoration
Ann Arbor, MI

Jury Comment:
The architect was given a strong basis of departure but was diligent in developing and enhancing the essence of the original design.

The additions to the existing building are very sensitive to the scale and proportion of Albert Kahn's original building. The interior renovation is done with integrity and minimal intervention to the existing auditorium.

This is an example of restoration where the less visible the hand of the restoring architect the better. The architect had the good sense of letting the existing building speak for itself. Everything new is almost invisible. Bravo!
