2005 AIA Michigan Design Honor Award

Mies van der Rohe Plaza
Detroit, MI
Jury Comment:
It's hard not to be seduced by the quality of
the ideas and drawings. Well thought out. I'd like to see the park during
different seasons to see if it really works. Obviously sensitive to Meis'
original work.
Good graphic presentation, strong idea that helps anchor a sense of place
for Lafayette Park.
The bas relief, book matching pattern creates a rich landscape of
fissures, filled with a subtle pallette of plant materials. The work is a
conceptual landscape tribute to Mies which brings a beautiful sense of
place to a tough setting.
