2005 AIA Michigan Design Honor Award

The Rapid Central Station
Grand Rapids, MI
Jury Comment:
We were immediately attracted to the way the
bus canopy sits within, yet captures the rolling shape of the freeway. The
passenger waiting building fills in the context of existing buildings
creating an urban edge which frames the undulating bus canopy. A tough
building type with a serious yet playful solution.
We all like the bus canopy the best. The form and siting along the freeway
is very well executed.
Strong, simple massing is interesting and not contrived. The bus canopy
and the site development in general works well to mitigate between the
scale of the freeway and the site's neighborhood.
