Good News - Bad News

Following up on our last disaster report, we are pleased that all of the people and machines are dried out enough to get back to limited production. This has been a trying time but thanks to everyone's quick response a major disaster was averted. A timely incoming call from Gary Quesada's office at high tide gave us the phone number of Burton Brothers Construction, a company that specializes in quick response to catastrophic events.

Lynn Francis redirecting the water flow. The disaster team arrived within the hour minimizing potential mold problems and carted off the computers to be dried and tested. The carpet was removed and all of the soggy paper was taken out. Two architects were on hand, Michael Mosley, AIA and Edward Francis, FAIA. Mike was quick with his digital camera photographing the mess to be used in negotiations with the insurance company. The adjustors have been in contact and that is in the works. Mike has also come up with a solution to the frozen pipe problem and the contractors have his drawings.

The bad news centers around the reconstruction project. Since the major damage occurred in the ceiling and on the floor, the staff won’t be able to use the computers for up to three weeks. Construction will commence on December 30 for the ceiling but we don’t yet have a delivery date for the carpet.

We are sorry for the inconvenience and will try to get things to you in a timely fashion. If something slips through the cracks, please don’t hesitate to call with a reminder. The Beaubien House will be closed beginning December 24 thru New Years and reopening will depend on the contractor’s schedule but we hope to be available on a limited basis after New Years. We will try to keep up the orders for Contract Documents and someone will be available to fill walk-in orders after the holidays. Invoicing may be delayed until the computers are accessible. We thank you for your patience.

When the work is done, we are planning an open house in the new year that will be sponsored by Michigan Benefits, AIA Michigan and AIA Detroit.

Quick thinking by the staff saved us from major damage to the computers, our data and records and to the Beaubien House itself. I can’t thank them enough.

Executive Director
