1. AIA Michigan Launches E-Newsletter
With the launch of this issue of E-News, the AIA Michigan opens a new avenue of efficient communications with members. E-News will be sent out to all members who have e-mail addresses on file with AIAMI. It will be transmitted between issues of our printed newsletter, the Bulletin.
2. IDP Validity Confirmed by NCARB Study
NCARB recently published results of its study to identify the tasks and knowledge/skills important to the competent performance of recently registered architects.

One function of the survey is to ensure that NCARB initiatives are in alignment with significant, current, emerging and future practices. Survey results support the content validity of the Architect Registration Examination (ARE) and reflect that NCARB has a strong foundation to develop future versions of the exam. Based on study results, other NCARB services were also validated, including the Council's Intern Development Program (IDP). Findings support the need for the IDP, as respondents emphasized the need to dissolve any perceived gaps between education and practice. In fact, participating architects indicated the IDP is a critical time for acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills. For more information on the IDP study contact AIAMI at 313-965-4100.

3. Energy Office Offers Financial Incentives
Wind Turbine and Photovoltaic Incentives will be available from the Energy Office for PV and wind systems installed in Michigan during 2001.

The incentive is $3/watt. Maximum incentive payment per applicant will be $5,000. All Michigan residents, businesses and institutions are eligible. PV systems must be at least 100 watts and wind systems must be at least 500 watts. A total of $300,000 is available for incentives which will be paid out on a first-come basis until December 31, 2001 or until funds are exhausted. For further information, call John Trieloff at (517) 241-6224.

4. AIAM Legislative Update: A Day on the Hill
AIA Michigan's Legislative Day is slated for Tuesday, May 8, 2001.

The Government Affairs Committee has been very busy planning for this event. Preliminary plans include an exhibit of projects from 38 districts starting at 1 p.m. The exhibit will be followed by a legislative briefing for all participants, and scheduled meetings with legislators. The program will conclude with the "Howling" reception at the offices of Kelley Cawthorne from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

This is a joint effort between AIAM, MSPE and ACEC to reach legislators regarding many common issues. The impact of a face-to-face meeting with a legislator far outreaches a letter or phone call. This is an opportunity to not only make our concerns known, but also to offer yourself for future assistance to legislators regarding technical issues. Full participation by our members is a goal we hope to meet. To sign up, call AIA Michigan at 313-965-4100
