ARCHITECTURAL FOUNDATION AWARDS TWO SCHOLARSHIPS:
Detroit, Michigan — April 20, 2007 — The Michigan Architectural Foundation Board of Directors approved two scholarships this year in their President’s Scholarship Program. Thanks to a grant that the Foundation earned from the American Institute of Architects Component Scholarship Program, the Foundation is able to award two $4,000 scholarships. The students will be recognized at the 150th Anniversary Gala of The American Institute of Architects Michigan at the Inn at St. John in Plymouth on April 20th.

Brittany M. Guercio is a senior at the University of Michigan and will graduate next week. She plans to attend graduate school at U of M. She is an active member of the American Institute of Architects Student (AIAS) organization and last spring, she and a small group of students applied for and received a grant to assist elderly and disabled citizens in the Ann Arbor area through a volunteer program called Freedom by Design. She is a mentor to pre-architecture students and guides them through the admissions process.

She has been working as an intern for VanTine | Guthrie Studio of Architecture in Northville and spent her last year’s spring break in Chicago at Skidmore Owings and Merrill. Her family lives in Washington, Michigan.

Brian E. Pelloski is in his fourth year at the University of Detroit Mercy and expects to graduate next year. He is passionate about design and hopes one day to have his own office. He was a football player until sidelined by an injury. He is deeply involved with community projects like Habitat for Humanity and the Clean Sweep Project in Detroit.

Brian is another AIAS member and is working as an intern at Wigen, Tincknell, Myer and Associates Architects in Saginaw.
