2010 AIA Detroit
Presidents Message
Raymond Cekauskas AIA

Hello everyone!
Your Detroit leadership board is working hard to improve the
chapter's value and effectiveness for you.
On Saturday, January 23, the Detroit board held its annual strategic
planning meeting to map out the chapter's strengths, weaknesses and
challenges that need to be addressed in 2010. Through collaborative
teamwork and smart planning, we are committed to making a difference
this year. If you are wondering about the origins of some of these
initiatives, then please read my January 22 President's message.

As you can see, our challenges for
the year are important and ambitious, and, as volunteers, we need
your help. If you want to make a difference by working hard and
having some fun doing it, we encourage you to please join the team
to contribute. Our goal is to make AIA Detroit a chapter with a
national reputation for creative excellence.
If you are interested in learning more about your board members we
would love to meet with you. We are considering trying out an
interactive "town hall meeting" format later in the year, but for
now, many of us will be at the next scheduled EPC meeting on
February 2, at the Majestic Café in Detroit. Please come by and say
hello.
A new feature of our outreach this year will entail each board
member writing a message to you through this communications portal.
I'm sure you'll read some interesting perspectives on topics that
can affect all of us.
Finally I'd like to thank one our newest board members, John
Avdoulos, AIA. John recently volunteered his time to participate in
the Future Cities Competition sponsored by one of our esteemed
colleagues, the Engineering Society of Detroit. He was impressed by
the enthusiasm and creativity of these future young architects and
engineers, who will one day have the opportunity you have now - to
make a difference.
Please enjoy the link and think about participating next year!

As always, your thoughts and comments are important, and welcome.
