2010 AIA Detroit
Presidents Message
Raymond Cekauskas AIA
Hello
everyone!
This year, the American Institute of Architects Detroit Chapter is
launching an on-going series of interactive group discussions
designed to introduce our members to influential community leaders
that are engaged in the important challenges of the day. With these
“Fireside Chats,” our goal is to provide our members with the
opportunity to have their voices heard and make these leaders aware
of the great resources that architects provide.
On Dec. 21, 2009, our first meeting
took place with Karen Dybis, a local freelance writer and editor of
TIME Magazine’s Detroit blog. The discussion was a huge success,
resulting in the linked article. It also opened the door for our
group to have continued interaction and editorial opportunities on
the publication’s blog. In addition to the linked article
summarizing the meeting, Karen invited AIA Detroit members to share
their thoughts throughout the year for future blogs.
Please take this kind invitation
seriously and engage the
blog with meaningful discussion and debate about our city - a
crucible of urban evolution.
Before I conclude, I would like to thank everyone who participated
at our inaugural “Fireside Chat,” including Joe Veryser, AIA, VP;
Frank Arvan, AIA, Treasurer; Glen LeRoy, FAIA, Dean, School of
Architecture, LTU; Alan Cobb, FAIA, AIAMI President; Joonqsub Kim,
AIA, Design Center LTU; Mark Nickita, AIA, Past Pres AIADC; Tracy
Petrella, AIA, EPC; Sam Moschelli, Associate & Shelli Authier,
Associate; Mike Layne & Mike Ingberg, Marx Layne; and Rae Dumke,
Hon. AIA. We will keep you
posted when the next chat will take place. Please share your
creative thoughts and observations with us – we listen!
For a better AIA chapter . . and a
better Detroit Sincerely,
